Parrots in Design

In honor of Mr. Ganguly, I’ve been keeping my eyes open for parrot motifs used in décor and fashion. Some examples:
Painting blending with wallpaper in a guest room where I stayed recently. Artist unknown. My hosts called this “the jungle room.” I slept very well, all the same. Macaw embellishing a picture frame–and maybe looking at contents. Clutch handbag by Nanette Lepore. Sociable creatures having a cozy conversation. Silk shawl imported from India by Ethnic Hues. Laurel Burch socks. They don’t go with the silk shawl, alas.I see lots of cats on scarves and socks, plus pigs and elephants, too. Also, some friends of mine have a house full of owls–owls on hand towels, cookie jars, candlesticks, you name it.
Given how gorgeous parrots are, I’m beginning to think they’re under-represented in design. I’ll keep looking for them.
I agree 100% – we need more parrot motifs. I say this as the “mom” of a perfect little green parrot, Pickle. I do have some parrot socks. In fact, I’m kind of a sucker for anything with a bird on it. As the Portlandia song goes, “Put a bird on it and call it art.”
